Ayrton Senna was born on March 21 1960. He was a Brazilian Formula One motor racing driver. He died on May 1, 1994, whilst leading a race in San Marino.
Senna was born in São Paulo. As a young boy, he quickly developed an interest in racing. Encouraged by his father, he got behind the of his first at the age of four. He first entered at the age of 13, and in 1977, he won the South American Kart Championship. Heading for Europe in 1981, he won the British Formula Ford 1600 competition.
In 1984, Senna secured a seat with the Toleman Formula One team. The next year, he joined the Lotus team. On April 21, 1985, he scored his first Grand Prix , thanks to an impressive display of wet-weather driving. At the end of 1985, he finished 4th in the World Championship with 38 points. His second season was even better. He finished the season with 55 points. In 1987 he ended third, with 57 points.
In 1988, Senna joined the Mclaren team with two-time World Champion Alain Prost. The foundation for a fierce competition between Senna and Prost was laid. It resulted in a number of dramatic race between the two. The pair won 15 of 16 races in 1988 with Senna coming out on top. 1992-11.jpg
The following year their intensified into battles on the track and a psychological war off it. This rivalry was typified by their race-long battle for victory in the 1989 German Grand Prix, which Ayrton won. Prost took the championship after Senna attempted a difficult pass and hit Prost’s car. Senna received much for this later. However, it was arguably the only point on the track where Senna could pass Prost.
Senna's intentions for 1993 were not clear as he did not have a with any team. Senna tested Mclaren's 1993 car and he knew that the engine would be down on power. However, his start to the 1993 season was amazing. He finished second in the opening race in South Africa. Then, he drove with great skill to win in constantly changing at home in Brazil and in the rain at Donington.
The unexpected success continued with a second place at Spain and a record breaking 6th win at Monaco. Even Senna though could not sustain this challenge against unequal . As the season progressed Prost proved that the Williams-Renault package was simply better technically. He took the championship. Senna concluded the season with two fine wins in Japan and Australia. However, he would never win again.
Senna was most respected for his qualifying skill, a discipline he mastered like none before. It produced a record 65 pole positions out of 161 races. This record stood for 12 years after his death, before it was beaten by Michael Schumacher.
"Magic" Senna, as he was known to his fans, also won the Monaco GP six times, a record which stands today and earned him the title "Master of Monaco".
Ayrton described in detail an odd feeling that he got during qualifying. His experience when qualifying for the 1988 Monaco GP for example he described as like being in a dream:
‘...the last qualifying session. I was already on pole, then by half a second and then one second and I just kept going. Suddenly I was nearly two seconds faster than anybody else, including my team mate with the same car. And suddenly I realised that I was no longer driving the car consciously. I was driving it by a kind of instinct, only I was in a different dimension. Then suddenly something just kicked me. I kind of woke up and realised that I was in a different atmosphere than you normally are. My immediate reaction was to back off, slow down. I drove slowly back to the pits and I didn't want to go out any more that day. It frightened me because I was well beyond my conscious understanding. It happens rarely but I keep these experiences very much alive inside me because it is something that is important for self-preservation.’
Gerhard Berger, a close friend, expressed a memory of what it was like qualifying with Senna:
‘I remember one weekend in Imola where I went out, I set the time. He went out, he was a bit quicker. I went out, I was quicker than him. He went out, he was quicker than me, and then it goes forwards, backwards -- ping pong -- until close to the end of the qualifying and it was the last set of tyres, and he was sitting in the racing car, me in my one, and he got out, walked over to my one and said, 'Listen, it's gonna get very dangerous now,' and I say 'So what? Let's go!'
Contrasting to Senna's intense and will to win on the track, his exploits off it were more humane: In 1992 in Belgium when Érik Comas had crashed heavily other drivers drove past at high speed. Senna could be seen jumping out of his car. Putting his own life in danger, he ran down the track to the wrecked car to reach inside and hit the electrics kill switch, to prevent a fire.
After Senna's death it was discovered that he had given millions of dollars of his personal fortune (estimated at $400 million) to children's charities. During his life he had kept this fact a secret.
In the film "The Right to Win" made in 2004, Frank Williams recalls that as good a driver as Senna was, ultimately "he was a greater man outside of the car than he was in it."

I will live my life as a 's wife on an island in the blue .
He will take care of me, he will smell like the sea,
And close to my heart he'll always stay.

I will three girls all with strawberry curls, little Ella and
Nelly and Faye.
While I'm combing their hair, I will catch his warm stare
On our island in the blue bay.

Far away far away, I want to go far away.
To a new life on a new .
Where the water is blue and the people are new.
To another island, in another life.

There's a boy next to me and he never will be anything but a boy at the bar.
And I think he's the , he's where everything stops.
How I love to love him from afar.

When he walks right pass me then I finally see on this I can't stay.
So I'm taking my frown to a far distant town
On an island in the blue bay.

Far away far away, I want to go far away.
To a new life on a new .
Where the water is blue and the people are new.
To another island, in another life.

I want to go far away.
Away away, I want to go far away, away, away
I want to go far away, far away.

Where the water is blue and the people are new.
To another life, to another life.
To another shore line
In another life.

Taking risks

When I think about my education life, I can't find any teacher that built on my strenghts and let me sail there. All of them were okay if most of the class understood the subject. They never cared about you individually if you were not VERY successful in that lesson.

In contrary to my old teachers, I would let my students take risks. Because playing safe won't give them any new inforation or experiences. They have to learn by doing, experiencing and taking risks.

SUPERTEACHER!!!

My super teacher is very intelligent in order to act properly in front of students in any kind of event. Thus, she thinks before she moves. She also has a very rich culture that she knows most of the things about the universe. She is not fast or strong but she is able to help people in need and this is how a teacher should be: smart and caring.
My hero can hear everything from afar and she's able to run very fast (in case of emergency ;) ). She has a horn that can call for help anytime because if anything happens to her students she probably will need this.

Personal Statement

Truth be told, I never wanted to be a teacher. I always thought I'd be an architect or engineer. But in the last year of high school I realised that I'm too lazy for those departments and decided to be an English teacher. I was already in a teachers' training high school and it was beneficial for me to become a teacher. I wanted to teach English because that's what I'm most good at. I already love to get to know different people and try to figure out what's in their mind (psychology) and their characteristics. Working with many different people always seemed very ideal for me.

So long I have only taught to my cousins and helped them with their homeworks but it was very fun all the while. It was obvious that all of us enjoyed the time we spent together studying.

This year one of my favorite classes is Oral Expression and Public Speaking. I have stage fright that's why I'm shy about giving presentations. But this class seems very fun and it looks like it is going to make me love giving presentations :) By the time I graduate I just want to become a confident teacher in front of the students. I think for everything confidence is the key.

Do teachers actually make a difference to society?

In my opinion, teachers do make a difference to society. Because after family members, teachers are the people who shape the children and help them grow. Thus, the way they approach an infant and their attitudes towards to them, what they teach and how they teach is very important. Because children never forget about their teachers, both good ones and the bad ones. A teacher can be rude, abusive and violent and that makes a child become wild or timid which are the kind of people society doesn't like. But a teacher can be positive, optimistic and energetic and help his students become more like himself, more creative, confident and well-mannered. People who the society accepts and loves. And this kids most probably become individuals with high goals and ambitious to reach them, people who contribute the public.

It's all about teacher's behaviours in class. If you show the kids you believe in them and help them become more confident, you surely add another contributing member to society and make a difference in positive way. In the other hand you might as well treat them as little rats and show no respect to them as persons, you might cause society to lose members who maybe were going to be very good for it, but you killed it.

So actually we can say that teachers are the people who decide to (choose the people who will) make a difference to society in the way they want.

Who is Berfu?

I love travelling ALOT!!
My name is Berfu Karakoç and I was born on 16 April 1995 in the southernmost corner of Turkey: Anamur, Mersin. I'm a proud Turkish. I am currently at Middle East Technical University studying Teaching English as a Foreign Language because I'd like to teach what I'm best at. What I like about my studies is that they are all different kinds of classes and they all contribute to my general knowledge and language development. What I dislike about my studies is that sometimes when they are not in my area of interest I reluctantly attend the classes. My home is in campus right now; I'm staying at the same dormitory since I came here in 2013.

I am saving up for my personal interests and the gifts for my loved ones. I really love to buy presents for the important people in my life and make them happy by surprising them :)
My favorite activities include watching YouTube channels I'm subscribed to and singing my heart out. I love to watch YouTube because it's a getaway from the outer world and responsibilities for me. And singing is the only activity that can make me feel my emotions most powerfully.
I love to say 'thank you' to people who deserve and my most over-used saying is probably "eyvallah".
My favorite meals are lahmacun and any food that is made of eggplant. My favorite snack is cacao Hoşbeş and Ruffles.
The person who supports me the most is my beloved mother and in my life she has helped me to get motivated on the tasks I was feeling insecure about. It's never enough how much I thank her.

The best time of the day for me is when I meet and hang out with the people I love such as my close friends. Because they cheer me up easily and make me forget about my fatigue and stress.
My greatest inspirations are my dreams. As in Journey's song, "Don't stop believing, hold on to that feeling!"

When I was little I remember that I was a more independent and determined person. My childhood was generally fun and positive and this is because of my optimistic, freespirited, happy-go-lucky personality. I always found school to be fun and this is because of my good friends around me.

The worst teacher I ever had was a Social Studies teacher in middle school because she never had a smiley face but a constant frowny one because she was always angry. She was very strict about everything and most of the time shouting at us. This made me realize what kind of teacher I should not be.
Derek & I
The best teacher I ever had was Derek Dowey in my first year of university. Even though he had very strict rules, I have learned the most from him; he was a very influencial teacher. He always told us not to study hard but to study effectively and efficiently. Also he has a good sense of humor :)
In my twenties I hope to do my MA then become an instructor. In late twenties I want to get married, have kids and have a happy family (inshAllah!). In my thirties I hope to travel many countries with my family and still be working. In my forties I hope to have children with succesful and bright futures, a happy marriage and a healthy and peaceful life for all my family. My main goals in life to have a welfare life and a happy family. I am very worried about my future because I am afraid not to achieve my dreams but still I trust my luck and this gives me a little confidence.
I believe I am going to graduate from METU NCC with a good CGPA because it hit me this semester that I have to study more. I am very happy when I am surrounded by my loved ones, my family and my friends, people who motivate me and I see this as a blessing. It is important to have such people you can trust around you. I know that my destiny is in my hands and I will do my best to achieve my dreams :)
